- In 2009, he was keen to document the forced eviction of 12,000 citizens in Jazan, in the border region with Yemen, and the illegal confiscation of vast areas of land and real estate belonging to residents, and the sale of parts of the confiscated lands and embezzlement of funds intended to compensate those who were forcibly displaced from their lands. He was arrested and released after 14 months. - In 2012, he was arrested after appearing on a TV program where he accused the authorities in the Jazan region of corruption and violating human rights. He was arrested and sentenced to 3 years imprisonment. - In December 2016 he was arrested for a third time and remains in detention

In his last arrest, he was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department in Makkah for investigation, and he has since not been released. After 3 months he was transferred to the General Prison in Makkah

Trial and legal proceedings
In 2018 he was charged with insulting the state; inciting public opinion against the Kingdom’s rulers; insulting the authorities and challenging their political, security and judicial decisions; calling for the release of members of banned organisations such as the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (ACPRA); contacting members of the opposition. He was sentenced to 6 years imprisonment and 6 years travel ban by the Specialised Criminal Court.
