The charges brought against him, according to the authorities' statement, included treason, collaborating with foreign entities, and joining a cell that violated the Kingdom's religious and moral principles. In April 2021, he was sentenced to 6 years in prison by the Specialized Criminal Court. In September of the same year, the Court of Appeals upheld the verdict. However, in September 2022, upon the completion of his sentence, he was retried. In December 2022, the Specialized Criminal Court issued a new sentence of 17 years in prison.
