Court of Appeal increases the sentence against Dr. Saud Al-Funaysan to 7 years
It was confirmed, according to close sources, that the Court of Appeal increased the sentence against Dr. Saud Al-Fanisan from two years to seven years, with a suspended sentence for three and a half years. The ruling was submitted to the Supreme Court for endorsement.
We had published in October 2021 that the Specialized Criminal Court had sentenced Dr. Al-Funaysan to two years in prison on charges of inciting public opinion.
Dr. Al-Funaysan, 85 years old, is a professor of Sharia at Imam Muhammad bin Saud University. He was arbitrarily arrested in March 2020 without legal reasons or arrest warrant, and the reason for his arrest was merely a tweet on his Twitter account about the Covid-19 epidemic.
