Because of a Tweet… Saudi Authorities Continue to Detain Media Activist Yousef Al-Mulhim for a Ninth Year

These days mark the ninth anniversary of the arrest of Saudi media activist and businessman Yousef Al-Mulhim, who Saudi authorities have continued to detain since September 2017 over a tweet he posted on X criticizing the official media discourse during the Saudi-Qatar crisis.

Despite the end of the crisis between the two countries, Al-Mulhim remains detained to this day, nine years after his arrest. During his detention, Al-Mulhim has been subjected to mistreatment by prison guards, denied contact with his family, and subjected to a secret trial in which he was not allowed to appoint a lawyer to defend him.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Yousef Al-Mulhim, compensate him for the years of detention and violations he has endured, and release and provide appropriate compensation to all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia.
