The activist Fatima Al-Shawarbi continues to be detained
The Saudi authorities continue to detain activist Fatima Al-Shawarbi since her arrest in September 2020, due to tweets from a pseudonymous account where she defended prisoners of conscience. She is serving a 30-year prison sentence, followed by a travel ban of the same duration.
In the Al-Dammam investigation prison, Fatima Al-Shawarbi suffers from deteriorating health conditions, which previously forced her to end a hunger strike she had started in protest against her arbitrary detention and her trial in a secretive and illegal court.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls on the Saudi authorities for the immediate and unconditional release of Al-Shawarbi and for her to be compensated for the severe violations she has endured.
