Sanad Human Rights Organization Condemns the Continued Detention of Sheikh Hamoud Al-Amri and Demands His Immediate Release
Saudi authorities continue to detain Sheikh Hamoud bin Ali Al-Amri, a prominent Islamic scholar, for over seven years in a blatant violation of human rights. Sheikh Al-Amri was arrested on September 12, 2017, as part of a crackdown targeting academics, intellectuals, and influential figures. No legal justification has been provided for his detention, reflecting the authorities’ use of arbitrary arrests to silence free voices.
During his years of detention, Sheikh Al-Amri has faced severe violations, including physical and psychological torture. In December 2020, he was sentenced to nine years in prison, despite the absence of evidence proving any real charges against him. This highlights the political nature of his case and the misuse of the judiciary to suppress peaceful dissent.
Sanad Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the continued detention of Sheikh Al-Amri, deeming it a stain on Saudi Arabia’s human rights record. The organization demands his immediate and unconditional release, along with all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia. Sanad also calls on the international community to pressure Saudi authorities to fulfill their obligations under international law and to ensure respect for human rights.
