SANAD Organisation calls for the immediate release of Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Youbi on the second anniversary of his arrest
These days mark the second anniversary of the arrest of former President of King Abdulaziz University, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Youbi, in July 2022.
SANAD Organisation exclusively revealed that Al-Youbi’s arrest resulted from a tip-off by a university official due to a personal dispute between him and Dr. Al-Youbi. After the arrest, Dr. Al-Youbi’s children sought the intercession of a close official to King Salman to secure their father’s release. However, this attempt displeased the Saudi Crown Prince, who took personal charge of the case and fabricated charges of embezzling half a billion Saudi riyals, along with orchestrating an online smear campaign against Dr. Al-Youbi.
In related details previously obtained by SANAD, it was reported that Saudi authorities summoned an external accountant to find evidence supporting the embezzlement charges against Dr. Al-Youbi. However, after a thorough audit of the information and data over some time, the external accountant categorically denied any suspicion of corruption or embezzlement by Dr. Al-Youbi. This outcome did not sit well with the Crown Prince, who ordered the continued detention and further restrictions on Al-Youbi.
SANAD Organisation asserts its rejection of the continued detention of former King Abdulaziz University President Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Youbi, despite the dismissal of all charges against him. The organization stresses the urgent need for his unconditional release and the restoration of his scientific and academic standing in Saudi Arabia.
