
SANAD renews its call for the release of Dr. Mohammed Matar Al-Harbi
Saudi authorities have continued to detain Dr. Mohammed Matar Al-Harbi since October 2021 following a violent arrest carried out without any legal basis. Al-Harbi served as a professor at Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, imam of Princess Sheikha Mosque, and a member of both the National Society for Human Rights and the Mecca Advisory Committee.
According to information received by SANAD Human Rights Organization, security forces raided Al-Harbi’s home, assaulted him, restrained him, and took him to an undisclosed location. Since then, the organization has received no reliable information regarding his detention conditions or any legal proceedings against him.
SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Mohammed Matar Al-Harbi, urges authorities to ensure his physical and psychological safety, disclose his whereabouts and detention conditions, and hold accountable those responsible for the violations committed against him.
