After More Than Seven Years in Detention, Saudi Authorities Release Dr. Malik Al-Ahmad
Saudi authorities have released academic and media professional Dr. Malik Al-Ahmad after more than seven years in detention. He was arrested on September 19, 2017, following a raid on his home, without any legal justification.
Dr. Malik Al-Ahmad is a prominent academic and media figure, an associate professor at King Saud University, and a member of the Saudi Association for Communication and Media as well as the Paris Journalists’ Union. He served as a media consultant and expert, founding and managing the “Abwab Media” organization in both Arabic and English. Dr. Al-Ahmad has made extensive contributions through hundreds of lectures, articles, and numerous publications in the field of media, earning him the title of “Media Engineer.”
Sanad Organization for Human Rights welcomes the release of Dr. Malik Al-Ahmad but emphasizes that this step does not absolve Saudi authorities of responsibility for the violations he suffered during his prolonged detention. The organization renews its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience who remain arbitrarily detained in Saudi prisons.
