The Ninth Anniversary of the Detention of Preacher Manawir Al-Noub Al-Abdali

These days mark the ninth anniversary of the detention of preacher Manawir Al-Noub Al-Abdali, who has remained in Saudi authorities’ custody since September 2017 for criticizing the widespread campaign of arrests launched by the authorities that year, which targeted dozens of academics, intellectuals, and public figures.

Al-Noub remains behind bars to this day, while the Saudi authorities continue to detain dozens of individuals arrested during the September 2017 campaign whose cases have been documented by Sanad Human Rights Organization, amid estimates that there are others whose cases the organization has been unable to document.

During his years in detention, Al-Noub was subjected, according to documentation by Sanad Human Rights Organization, to violations including arbitrary detention, torture, and ill-treatment in prison. The organization has not received any information indicating that he has been subjected to a trial since his arrest.

Sanad Human Rights Organization calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release preacher Manawir Al-Noub Al-Abdali and all prisoners of conscience, and to compensate him and provide full redress for the harm he has suffered as a result of years of detention and the violations to which he has been subjected.
