SANAD sources: Saudi Arabia sentences Abdullah Al-Sayel to 9 years in prison
Exclusive sources for SANAD Human Rights Organization reported that Abdullah Al-Sayel is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence, amid a lack of information regarding his trial sessions or the legal procedures that led to the ruling, according to what the organization has been able to document.
Al-Sayel was arrested in September 2019 after security forces raided his home in Mahayil Asir, following tweets in which he expressed support for prisoners of conscience in the Kingdom. He is currently serving his sentence in Shaar Prison in the Asir region.
SANAD condemned the continued detention of Abdullah Al-Sayel over his tweets, stating that it constitutes a clear violation of his right to freedom of opinion and expression. The organization called on Saudi authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally, and to provide fair compensation for the harm he has suffered.
SANAD also called on anyone with additional information about Al-Sayel’s case, or the circumstances of his arrest, trial, and detention, to contact the organization through its official channels to help complete documentation of the violations and follow up on his case.
