Fifth Anniversary of the Arrest of Elderly Woman Aisha Al-Muhajri
These days mark the fifth anniversary of the arrest of the elderly woman Aisha Al-Muhajri (70 years old), who was detained in February 2021. It is believed that the reason for her arrest was holding educational lessons in her home in Mecca.
Al-Muhajri was arrested in a brutal manner, as a security force of around twenty officers raided her home, with no regard for her advanced age or health condition. Her suffering did not end there; during her detention she was subjected to numerous serious violations, most notably deliberate medical neglect, denial of contact with her family, threats against her children by State Security officers, and being barred from appointing a lawyer to defend her.
SANAD Human Rights Organization holds the Saudi authorities fully responsible for Aisha Al-Muhajri’s safety and calls for her immediate release, compensation for all the violations she has endured, and the release of all prisoners of conscience, both women and men.
