Saudi Arabia Releases Dr. Ali Hassan Al-Alma’i After More Than Three Years of Detention

The Saudi authorities have released Dr. Ali Hassan Al-Alma’i, a 63-year-old academic, after more than three years of detention since his arrest in July 2021 for attending a gathering hosted by Dr. Awad Al-Qarni.

In September 2022, the Specialized Criminal Court issued an unjust 23-year prison sentence against him, during which he endured severe violations, including enforced disappearance and denial of communication with his family.

While Sanad Human Rights Organization congratulates Dr. Al-Alma’i on regaining his freedom after this ordeal, it underscores the need for full compensation for the harm he suffered during his detention. Sanad also renews its call for the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience who remain unjustly imprisoned in Saudi Arabia.
