Completion of the Sentence of Human Rights Activist Fawzan Al-Harbi
As of the end of December 2023, the human rights activist Fawzan Al-Harbi had completed his sentence. He was arrested in December 2013 for his human rights activities and for participating in the founding of the Hasm Association. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Despite this, the Saudi authorities have not yet released him.
In prison, Al-Harbi faced numerous violations, including the arrest of his wife, Amal Al-Harbi, while she was with their children on the Jeddah Corniche. She was detained merely for demanding his release, an act aimed at pressuring her husband and increasing his psychological torture. She was released earlier. Al-Harbi was also held in solitary confinement, was not allowed legal representation, and suffered mistreatment that led him to go on hunger strike more than once in protest.
The Saudi authorities must immediately and unconditionally release human rights activist Fawzan Al-Harbi and all other innocent detainees.
