Mohammed Dulaim Al-Qahtani, 69: Nine Years of Arbitrary Detention in Saudi Arabia

These days mark the ninth anniversary of the arrest of Islamic thinker and human rights activist Mohammed Dulaim Al-Qahtani, who was detained by Saudi authorities in September 2017 despite his advanced age and deteriorating health.

Since his arrest, Al-Qahtani—now over 69 years old—has reportedly endured serious violations in prison, including solitary confinement and physical and psychological torture. He subsequently suffered a stroke that left the left side of his body paralyzed. Despite also suffering from chronic illnesses, including diabetes and heart disease, Saudi authorities continue to arbitrarily detain him.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Mohammed Dulaim Al-Qahtani, ensure that he receives proper treatment and healthcare, and provide him with appropriate compensation. SANAD also renews its call to end the systematic repression of peaceful voices and release all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia.
