Six Years After His Arrest… The Fate of Faisal Al-Shamrani Remains Unknown

London – 10 January 2026 – More than six years after the arrest and enforced disappearance of Faisal Al-Shamrani in November 2019, his fate remains unknown to this day, with no confirmation as to whether he has been released or is still being held in detention.

Saudi authorities arrested Al-Shamrani over tweets posted on his X account (formerly Twitter) in which he called for access to employment opportunities and criticized the widespread unemployment among youth in the Kingdom.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately disclose Al-Shamrani’s fate and legal status, ensure his basic rights, and release him unconditionally, as well as to free all prisoners of conscience in the country.
