After 13 Years of Detention… Muhannad Al-Muhaimid Remains Imprisoned Despite Completing His Sentence Three Years Ago

Human rights activist Muhannad Al-Muhaimid has now spent 13 years in Saudi prisons since his arrest in November 2012 for participating in peaceful demonstrations organized by families of prisoners of conscience.

In 2014, the Specialized Criminal Court upheld an initial ruling sentencing him to 10 years in prison, along with a 10-year travel ban and a fine of 100,000 SAR. The arbitrary measures also included suspending his Twitter account and banning him from writing on social media entirely. Despite completing his sentence three years ago, he has not been released to this day.

Throughout his imprisonment, Al-Muhaimid suffered severe violations, including physical torture, 80 days in solitary confinement, and being beaten by 15 military personnel after requesting the right to appoint a lawyer.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to reveal the conditions of Muhannad Al-Muhaimid’s detention and to immediately and unconditionally release him, while also compensating him for the arbitrary imprisonment and abuses he has endured.
