Musaed Al-Kathiri enters his ninth year behind bars in Saudi Arabia despite completing his sentence
Saudi journalist Musaed bin Hamad Al-Kathiri has now spent eight full years in prison and has entered his ninth year of arbitrary detention, even though his sentence expired more than four years ago.
In a secret trial lacking the most basic standards of justice, Saudi courts sentenced Al-Kathiri to three and a half years in prison. However, authorities have continued to detain him since the end of his sentence in 2021 without any legal basis.
Al-Kathiri was arbitrarily arrested in September 2017 and has since endured severe violations, including denial of family contact, secret court sessions, and being barred from appointing a lawyer for his defense.
SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call for his immediate and unconditional release and for guaranteeing his safety and basic rights.
