On the eighth anniversary of his arrest, SANAD condemns the continued detention of Hamoud bin Ali Al-Omari and calls for his release
This week marks eight years since the arrest of Mr. Hamoud bin Ali Al-Omari on 12 September 2017, as part of the September Crackdown that targeted prominent academics, intellectuals, and influential public figures.
While held in Al-Ha’ir Prison, Al-Omari suffered severe violations, including physical and psychological torture and denial of legal representation, before a Saudi court handed down an unjust nine-year prison sentence in December 2020, along with a four-year travel ban following his release.
SANAD Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the ongoing detention and suffering of Mr. Hamoud Al-Omari, and reiterates its call on the Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release him and all prisoners of conscience in the Kingdom.
