Abdulrahman Farhana behind bars since 2019 over charges related to supporting the Palestinian resistance

Saudi authorities continue to detain Jordanian journalist Abdulrahman Farhana, who was arrested on 22 February 2019 in Dammam. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison, with half the term suspended and deportation upon completion of his sentence, on charges related to supporting the Palestinian resistance.

Farhana, 68, suffers from chronic illnesses including diabetes, amid deliberate medical neglect and ill-treatment in prison — posing a serious threat to his life. The authorities also denied him permission to attend his mother’s funeral after she passed away in 2023 while he remained behind bars.

His arrest came as part of a wider crackdown that targeted more than 60 Palestinians and Jordanians, detained over their support for the Palestinian resistance. Most of them remain imprisoned in Saudi jails to this day.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately release Abdulrahman Farhana and all Palestinian and Jordanian detainees held solely for their pro-Palestine positions.
