Since August 2021: Yemeni Journalist Ali Abulohoum Remains Imprisoned in Saudi Arabia

For nearly four years, Yemeni journalist Ali Mohsen Abulohoum has remained behind bars in Saudi Arabia. He was arrested in August 2021 outside his home in Najran, allegedly over tweets attributed to anonymous accounts that he has consistently denied any connection to.

In October 2021, the Najran court sentenced Abulohoum to 15 years in prison, despite the lack of concrete evidence proving his involvement with the accounts or the content in question, according to human rights sources.

Ali Abulohoum is known for his prior media work. He was a journalist at Yemen Times Radio and served as executive director of Al-Wadi TV in Saudi Arabia, where he had been living since 2015.

SANAD Human Rights Organization affirms that Abulohoum’s continued detention constitutes a grave violation of freedom of expression, and calls for the immediate and unconditional release of the journalist, along with full compensation for the material and moral damages he has suffered.
