Continued Detention of Saudi Lawyer Muteb Zafar Al-Omari

The Saudi authorities arrested the lawyer Muteb Zafar Al-Omari in 2018, due to tweets in which he expressed his opinion on the future of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through his account named ‘Future Readings,’ and he is still under arbitrary detention to this date.

Since his arrest, lawyer Al-Omari has been subjected to several violations, including beating and electric torture, in addition to being prevented from communicating with his family, and his continued detention for two years without trial.

At the beginning of 2022, the Saudi Appeals Court issued a sentence to imprison him for seven years, in a decision described as arbitrary and devoid of justified legal reasons.
