Abdullah Al-Sayel Completes His Five-Year Sentence, Yet Saudi Authorities Continue to Detain Him

Young Abdullah Al-Sayel has completed his five-year sentence, yet Saudi authorities continue to detain him in clear violation of Saudi local law and Article 213 of the Saudi Criminal Procedures Law, which mandates the immediate release of a detainee once their sentence has been served.

Al-Sayel was arrested in September 2019 after a raid on his home in Muhayil Asir, following tweets in which he defended prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia. Despite the arbitrary nature of his arrest, he was sentenced to five years in prison.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately release Abdullah Al-Sayel and adhere to local laws. It also urges the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience.
