Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudairi: A University Professor Behind Bars Since 2017
For over six years, Saudi authorities have continued to detain Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudairi for delivering a Friday sermon in Qatar. Despite the resolution of the crisis between the two countries, the Saudi government refuses to release him.
Al-Khudairi was arrested in September 2017 following a security raid on his home. He was charged with various offenses, including defying the ruler, delivering a Friday sermon in Qatar, and building mosques in several countries. Dr. Al-Khudairi holds a Ph.D. in the Fundamentals of Religion and served as an instructor and professor in the Department of Quranic Studies at the Teachers College in Riyadh. He also held the position of Chairman of the Board at Maahid Consultancy Center.
Al-Khudairi’s suffering is part of the broader plight of hundreds of detainees in Saudi prisons held for illegitimate reasons and on charges that do not warrant imprisonment. These violations continue despite local and international calls for the release of the detainees. SANAD Organisation for Human Rights reiterates its appeal to the international community and human rights organizations to pressure the Saudi government to release Dr. Mohammed Al-Khudairi and all political prisoners, ensuring respect for human rights in Saudi Arabia.
