The Saudi authorities have refused to release Abdulrahman Farhana to attend his mother's funeral.
Despite the Saudi Arabian law allowing detainees to attend the funerals of their first-degree relatives, the Saudi authorities have refused to release the Jordanian detainee, Abdulrahman Farhana, to attend his mother’s funeral, who passed away on Sunday. This constitutes a new violation added to an ongoing and increasing series of violations. Similarly, the authorities also did not permit Dr. Amer Al-Alma’i to attend his father’s funeral, who passed away on July 23rd.
It’s worth mentioning that the Saudi authorities arrested Abdulrahman Farhana on February 22, 2019, in Dammam, on charges related to supporting resistance. On August 8, 2021, the Specialized Criminal Court issued a verdict sentencing him to 19 years in prison. Despite Abdulrahman Farhana suffering from several health conditions, including hypertension and diabetes, the Saudi authorities have not allowed him to take his medications.
