Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mahmoud serves a 25-year prison sentence for criticizing corruption

In September 2022, the Saudi judiciary sentenced university professor Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mahmoud to 25 years in prison, without legal reasons.

Saudi authorities had arrested Al-Mahmoud in October 2019, after a video of him criticizing corruption in Saudi Arabia spread. He was released after two months, but was re-arrested in September 2021 and remains in arbitrary detention to this day.

It is worth mentioning that Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Mahmoud was a member of the faculty at Imam University, with many writings and publications, and is considered one of the scientific and cultural faces in Saudi Arabia.
