Nine Years After His Arrest, No News of Sami Al-Ghaihab as SANAD Calls for Disclosure of His Fate and His Release

These days mark the ninth anniversary of the arrest of Sheikh Sami Al-Ghaihab in September 2017, as part of the September crackdown that targeted a large number of activists, intellectuals, influential figures, and journalists in Saudi Arabia. SANAD has received no information about him since his arrest.

Al-Ghaihab’s continued detention reflects the pattern of systematic repression in the country since Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman assumed power, with hundreds of detainees facing similar conditions in prison amid the absence of justice and disregard for human rights standards.

SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call on Saudi authorities to immediately release Sheikh Sami Al-Ghaihab and provide him with appropriate compensation for the harm caused by years of detention and enforced disappearance.
