Mohannad Al-Muhaimid Completes 5,000 Days Behind Bars Despite His Sentence Ending in November 2022
Human rights activist Mohannad Al-Muhaimid has completed 5,000 days behind bars since his arbitrary arrest in November 2012 for participating in peaceful demonstrations organized by families of prisoners of conscience.
In 2014, the Specialized Criminal Court upheld an initial 10-year prison sentence, followed by a 10-year travel ban and a fine of SAR 100,000. His X account was also ordered closed, and he was permanently banned from writing on social media. Despite completing his sentence four years ago, he remains detained without any legal basis.
During his detention, Al-Muhaimid was subjected to serious abuses, including physical torture, 80 days in solitary confinement, and being beaten by 15 soldiers after demanding his right to legal representation.
SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call on the Saudi authorities to disclose Al-Muhaimid’s fate and detention conditions, release him immediately and unconditionally, hold those responsible for the violations accountable, and provide him with appropriate redress in line with international human rights standards.
