With Nine Months Remaining Until the End of His Sentence… SANAD Calls for the Release of Hamoud Al-Omari

In December 2020, the Saudi judiciary issued an unjust ruling sentencing Hamoud bin Ali Al-Omari to nine years in prison, along with a four-year travel ban to be imposed after his release, on charges related to freedom of expression.

Al-Omari was arbitrarily arrested as part of the September 2017 crackdown. During his detention at Al-Ha’ir Prison, he was subjected to serious violations, including physical and psychological torture, and was denied the right to appoint a lawyer and defend himself.

Taking into account the duration of his detention, Al-Omari’s sentence is set to end in September 2026, leaving only nine months remaining. Nevertheless, SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally, especially given that his arrest and trial were arbitrary from the outset.
