Arrest of Yemeni Scholar Abu Al-Hasan Al-Ma’ribi
SANAD Human Rights Organization has learned that Saudi authorities have arrested Yemeni scholar and head of the Ahl al-Hadith Association in Yemen, Mustafa Ismail Al-Sulaymani, known as Abu Al-Hasan Al-Ma’ribi, upon his arrival in the Kingdom to perform Umrah.
Sheikh Abu Al-Hasan Al-Ma’ribi had previously criticized the Madkhali current, a religious faction loyal to the Saudi government, which is believed to be linked to his arrest, although no official confirmation has been issued so far.
This is not the first time Saudi authorities have arrested pilgrims and worshippers. Previous cases include the detention of Yemeni Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahdal—who remains imprisoned to this day—as well as Libyan businessman Abdulrahman Qartajah, who was later released following rights-based pressure, among others.
SANAD strongly condemns the arrest of Yemeni scholar Mustafa Ismail Al-Sulaymani while performing Umrah, viewing it as part of an ongoing repressive pattern targeting pilgrims in recent years. The organization calls for his immediate and unconditional release, along with the release of all individuals detained for their opinions or peaceful activities.
