On the brink of his ninth year… Salman Al-Odah nears eight years in prison

In just a few days, prominent Islamic scholar Dr. Salman Al-Odah will complete eight full years behind bars since his arrest in September 2017, over a tweet calling for reconciliation during the Gulf crisis.

Throughout these harsh years, Al-Odah has faced systematic abuses, including solitary confinement, shackling, denial of family contact, and an unfair secret trial where he was barred from legal representation. The Public Prosecution still demands his execution.

In September 2023, the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention declared his imprisonment arbitrary and a blatant violation of international human rights law.

Now, at 69, Al-Odah remains in solitary confinement, suffering from worsening illnesses and severe vision loss in one eye.

Sanad Human Rights Organization affirms that his continued detention is an arbitrary crime and calls for his immediate release and restoration of his basic rights.
