A Decade in Detention: Activist Abdulaziz Al-Saneedi Marks Ten Years in Saudi Prisons Despite Completing His Sentence
Ten years have passed, and human rights activist Abdulaziz Al-Saneedi remains behind bars, arbitrarily detained in Saudi prisons since February 8, 2015. His only “offense” was posting tweets in which he expressed his opinions and showed solidarity with prisoners of conscience. Despite having completed his sentence, Saudi authorities insist on keeping him in detention—a blatant violation of basic principles of justice and human rights.
Throughout this decade, Al-Saneedi has suffered grave violations, including physical and psychological torture, mistreatment, and denial of family visits. In protest against these systematic abuses, he has repeatedly gone on hunger strikes.
SANAD Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the continued detention of Al-Saneedi. Keeping him imprisoned after his sentence has expired constitutes a severe human rights violation. The organization renews its call for his immediate and unconditional release, holding Saudi authorities fully responsible for his safety and well-being. SANAD also urges the international community and human rights groups to increase pressure to end the suffering of all prisoners of conscience who have been deprived of their freedom solely for peacefully expressing their views.
