Sanad Human Rights Organization Unveils Severe Restrictions and New Violations Against Recently Released Prisoners of Conscience in Saudi Arabia
Sanad Human Rights Organization has obtained confirmed information indicating that Saudi authorities have imposed repressive restrictions on several recently released prisoners of conscience. These individuals have been forced to comply with strict conditions that severely limit their fundamental freedoms, constituting a blatant violation of civil and political rights.
Multiple Restrictions and Rights Violations
These restrictions include travel bans imposed on both the released individuals and their families. Additionally, they have been forced to sign pledges prohibiting them from discussing public affairs, whether through the media or on social media platforms. They are also forbidden from receiving visitors in their homes.
Moreover, further restrictions have been enforced, including a ban on attending or organizing any celebrations or events, even family gatherings. These measures have deepened their isolation, making it extremely difficult for them to reintegrate into society.
Electronic Surveillance and Threats of Re-Arrest
In addition to these limitations, authorities have imposed strict surveillance measures on some of the released individuals. This includes forcing them to wear electronic ankle bracelets to monitor their movements continuously, alongside ongoing security surveillance even after their release.
Sanad Human Rights Organization had previously revealed that Saudi authorities have also imposed financial restrictions on released detainees. They have been prohibited from withdrawing more than 40,000 Saudi riyals from their bank accounts and face daily withdrawal limits, disrupting their financial affairs—especially for business owners.
Furthermore, authorities have warned the released individuals against speaking about the abuses they endured in prison, threatening them with re-arrest should they fail to remain silent.
These measures reflect an escalating repressive policy aimed at silencing dissent and preventing former prisoners of conscience from resuming a normal life after their release. This confirms the ongoing violation of fundamental human rights by Saudi authorities.
Sanad Human Rights Organization Condemns the Restrictions and Calls for Their Removal
Sanad Human Rights Organization strongly condemns these repressive measures imposed by Saudi authorities on prisoners of conscience after their release. The organization considers these actions a continuation of suppression, silencing dissent, and a flagrant violation of fundamental rights.
The organization affirms that these restrictions constitute an additional and unlawful punishment against the released individuals and their families, hindering their reintegration into society and preventing them from returning to normal life.
In this regard, Sanad Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately lift these arbitrary restrictions, respect the right of the released individuals to freedom of movement, expression, and social interaction, and ensure their full enjoyment of civil and political rights.
