1,200 Days of Arbitrary Detention: SANAD Calls for Dr. Saud Al-Sarhan’s Immediate Release

Dr. Saud Al-Sarhan, former Secretary-General of the King Faisal Center for Research and Studies, has spent 1,200 days in Saudi prisons since his arrest on October 15, 2021. His detention followed the publication of an article in which he questioned Saudi Arabia’s economic and political future under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s leadership.

According to information previously obtained by SANAD, Dr. Al-Sarhan’s physical and mental health has deteriorated significantly during his detention. Reports also indicate that he was held in a security facility for several months before being transferred to prison. Additionally, he has been completely denied contact with his family, raising serious concerns about his safety and the protection of his basic rights.

SANAD expresses its deep concern over Dr. Al-Sarhan’s continued imprisonment, stressing that this action constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and freedom of expression. The organization renews its call on Saudi authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally, and to allow him to contact his family and receive necessary medical care.
