Release of Dawood Al-Ali After Four Years of Arbitrary Detention
Sanad Human Rights Organization has learned that Saudi authorities released social media activist Dawood Al-Ali in December 2024, after spending four years in arbitrary detention since December 2020.
Al-Ali was arrested for tweets he posted on the X platform (formerly Twitter), in which he expressed opposition to normalization with Israel. At the time, Saudi courts sentenced him to 25 years in prison based on these tweets.
Sanad welcomes the release of Dawood Al-Ali and reiterates its call for Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release all prisoners of conscience, ensuring fair compensation for the harm they have endured.
