Sanad Human Rights Organization Condemns the Continued Detention of Dr. Ali Al-Tuwaiti Al-Qurashi for the Fourth Year

More than 1,100 days have passed since Saudi authorities arrested Dr. Ali Al-Tuwaiti Al-Qurashi, a prominent writer, and economic and strategic analyst, in September 2021 for tweets criticizing the policies of the United Arab Emirates. This move reflects the increasing crackdown on freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Al-Tuwaiti is a distinguished figure in Saudi society, with extensive experience in academia and the military. He holds a Ph.D. in Regional Economics and Public Finance from Syracuse University in the United States and has held multiple leadership positions in Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense, establishing himself as an influential voice in his field.

Sanad Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern over the continued detention of Dr. Al-Tuwaiti, emphasizing that his arrest is part of an escalating campaign targeting prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders in Saudi Arabia. The organization calls on Saudi authorities to release Dr. Al-Tuwaiti immediately and unconditionally, as well as all detainees imprisoned for their peaceful opinions, and to uphold human rights and freedom of expression.
