Sanad Human Rights Organization: Bulgaria’s Decision to Extradite Abdulrahman Al-Khaldi to Saudi Arabia Violates the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights

Sanad Human Rights Organization is deeply concerned by the Bulgarian Supreme Court’s decision to extradite Saudi activist Abdulrahman Al-Khaldi to Saudi Arabia, a move that constitutes a blatant violation of Article 19 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, which prohibits forced deportation to countries where deportees may face torture or inhumane treatment.

Sanad highlights that Bulgarian law, in accordance with the European Convention on Human Rights, explicitly prohibits extraditing individuals to countries like Saudi Arabia, where human rights conditions are severely concerning, particularly for dissidents and activists who face severe abuses.

Sanad calls on human rights activists in Bulgaria to closely monitor Abdulrahman Al-Khaldi’s case to prevent him from falling victim to illegal deportation that could put him in serious danger. It underscores the need for Bulgaria to adhere to its international human rights commitments and protect all refugees from forced deportation to countries where their lives and safety are at risk.
