The Continued Detention of Writer Jamil Farsi

The Continued Detention of Writer Jamil Farsi

he Saudi authorities have continued to detain writer and economic expert Jamil Farsi since September 2017 due to his expression of reformist views and his criticism of the management of the economic file in Saudi Arabia. Farsi was initially sentenced to five years in prison, which was later increased to seven years without any legal justification.

In prison, Jamil Farsi has suffered from mistreatment, and his family has been prevented from visiting him. He was subjected to an unfair secret trial where he was not even allowed to appoint a lawyer, violating the basic rights of litigation.

SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Jamil Farsi and all other prisoners of conscience, urging respect for human rights and freedom of expression in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
