The Sixth Anniversary of the Arrest of Human Rights Activist Mohammed Al-Rubaie
These days mark the sixth anniversary of the arrest of human rights activist Mohammed Al-Rubaie on May 15, 2018, due to his advocacy for human rights and women’s rights in Saudi Arabia.
It is noted that the Specialized Criminal Court initially sentenced him to six years in prison, which was later reduced by the Court of Appeals to four years and six months. However, the persecution did not stop there; just four days before his sentence was to end, the court overturned the ruling and retried him, sentencing him to 17 years in prison.
While in prison, Al-Rubaie suffered numerous severe violations, including brutal torture with electric shocks, waterboarding, hanging him by his feet, placing him in a small closet for several days, preventing him from sitting or sleeping, and systematic starvation by the Saudi authorities.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately release Mohammed Al-Rubaie and provide him with the necessary compensation.
