SANAD Organisation condemns the continued detention of the Saudi journalist Youssef Al-Malhem in Saudi Arabia

SANAD Organisation for Human Rights condemns the continued detention of the Saudi journalist and businessman Youssef Al-Malhem since 2017, without any legal justification or fair trial, and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.

It is noted that Al-Malhem was arrested due to a tweet on platform (x) in which he criticized the Saudi media discourse during the crisis with Qatar, and he remains under arbitrary detention to this day despite the resolution of the crisis between the two countries.

Additionally, Al-Malhem has suffered poor treatment in prison by jailers, has been prevented from meeting his family, and underwent a secret trial that was not announced, where he was not even allowed to appoint a lawyer to defend him.
