Five Years Behind Bars: The Continuing Ordeal of Writer Mohammed Al-Sadiq
Five Years Behind Bars: The Continuing Ordeal of Writer Mohammed Al-Sadiq
These days mark the fifth anniversary of the arrest of journalist Mohammed Al-Sadiq in April 2019, due to several old articles concerning women’s rights and others rejecting normalization.
The arbitrary arrest was not enough for the Saudi repressive authorities; since his entry into arbitrary detention, Al-Sadiq has faced difficulties in communicating with his family, was denied the right to appoint a lawyer, and experienced extremely poor treatment by the jailers.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights condemns the continued detention of journalist Mohammed Al-Sadiq without just cause and demands his immediate release by the Saudi authorities. SANAD Organisation affirms Al-Sadiq’s right to freedom of expression and opinion, warns of the dangers of continuing to suppress dissenting voices in Saudi Arabia, emphasizes the importance of respecting international human rights law, and calls on the international community to pressure Saudi authorities to stop their violations.
