The Ninth Anniversary of the Arrest of Human Rights Activist Abdulaziz Al-Sunaidi
Nine years ago, specifically on February 8, 2015, the Saudi authorities arrested human rights activist Abdulaziz Al-Sunaidi, due to tweets in which he expressed solidarity with the detainees of Hasm, and he remains under arbitrary arrest to this day.
In prison, Al-Sunaidi was subjected to a number of serious violations including: poor treatment, denial of family visits, in addition to physical and psychological torture, which led him to go on hunger strikes several times in rejection of the systematic abuse. Despite the completion of his sentence, the Saudi authorities still refuse to release him to this day.
The continued detention of ‘Abdulaziz Al-Sunaidi’ represents a blatant violation of human rights, and the Saudi authorities must immediately release him. The authorities must respect human rights and stop repressive practices against human rights activists and those expressing their opinions.
