The Continued Detention of Human Rights Activist Mohand Al-Muhaimid
The human rights activist, Mohand Al-Muhaimid, remains detained in Saudi prisons since his arrest in November 2012 for supporting demonstrations by relatives of opinion prisoners demanding their release or a fair trial.
In 2014, the Specialized Criminal Court upheld a preliminary sentence sentencing him to 10 years in prison and a travel ban for the same duration, in addition to a fine of 100,000 Saudi Riyals. His Twitter account was suspended, and he was completely banned from writing on all social media platforms.
Al-Muhaimid faced numerous serious violations in prison, including physical torture and solitary confinement for 80 days. He was also beaten by 15 soldiers for requesting a lawyer.
