SANAD Organisation for Human Rights Sends Letter of Condemnation to the Saudi Ambassador in Sweden.
London, December 8, 2023 – SANAD Organisation for Human Rights sent a letter of protest to Ms. Inas Ahmed Al Shahwan, the Saudi Ambassador to Sweden, expressing its strong condemnation of the treatment received by the Saudi citizen Abdullah Mohammed Al Qahtani at the Saudi Embassy in Sweden.
SANAD organisation stated in its letter, ‘We condemn and reject this shameful behavior, and affirm that the Saudi embassies abroad should be responsible for protecting and assisting Saudi citizens. However, the violation that Abdullah Al Qahtani was subjected to indicates that Saudi embassies are no longer safe for Saudi citizens and may even be a source of danger.’
SANAD organisation added, ‘The fact that Abdullah Al Qahtani had to enter the Saudi Embassy in Sweden accompanied by the police of the host country, Sweden, signals a real danger to the safety of Saudi citizens abroad, especially those who oppose the Saudi government. This reminds us of the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in 2018.’
SANAD organisation urged the Saudi ambassador in Sweden, Inas Ahmed Al Shahwan, to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of Saudi citizens abroad and respect their freedom to express their opinions, emphasizing that the embassy should be a safe place for Saudi citizens to express their opinions without fear of harassment, arrest, or murder.
