Islamic Preacher Hamoud Al-Omari Completes His Sentence in Saudi Arabia Amid No News of His Release

Islamic preacher Hamoud bin Ali Al-Omari completed his nine-year prison sentence in Saudi Arabia in September 2026, amid no reports of his release.

In December 2020, a Saudi court sentenced Sheikh Hamoud Al-Omari to nine years in prison, followed by a four-year travel ban after his release, over charges related to freedom of opinion and expression.

Saudi authorities arrested Sheikh Al-Omari in September 2017 as part of a widespread crackdown targeting several Islamic preachers, academics, and activists. Since his arrest and detention at Al-Ha’ir Prison, he has reportedly been subjected to a series of violations, including physical and psychological torture and denial of access to a lawyer.

SANAD Human Rights Organization expresses concern over the lack of information regarding the fate of Hamoud Al-Omari after completing his sentence and calls on Saudi authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally and provide him with appropriate compensation.
