Saudi Arabia continues to hold Samir Al-Hilal in solitary confinement since 2015

Saudi authorities continue to detain 65-year-old Sheikh Samir Al-Hilal in solitary confinement since the moment of his arrest on December 16, 2015, amid human rights concerns over the deterioration of his health due to prolonged detention under harsh conditions.

According to human rights sources, security forces arrested Al-Hilal in front of his home without presenting an arrest warrant or prior summons. Since then, he has been denied direct contact with his family and deprived of his basic rights, including regular visits and access to legal counsel.

Sources confirmed that Al-Hilal’s family has been unable to visit or communicate directly with him throughout the years of his detention despite repeated requests. On one occasion, his wife received notice that a visit had been approved, but the family was prevented from entering the detention facility upon arrival without any official explanation.

SANAD Human Rights Organization stated that Al-Hilal’s continued solitary confinement since his arrest constitutes a clear violation of legal and human rights standards. The organization called on Saudi authorities to release him immediately, and until then, urged them to end his solitary confinement at once, allow him to communicate with his family and lawyer, and guarantee respect for his legal and human rights.
