On the Sixth Anniversary of Her Arrest — SANAD Calls for the Immediate Release of Writer Zana Al-Shahri

These days mark the sixth anniversary of the arrest of writer and journalist Zana Al-Shahri, who was detained in November 2019 over articles in which she peacefully expressed her opinions.

Zana Al-Shahri previously worked as a journalist and translator for Al-Asr magazine. She is not the only journalist still behind bars in Saudi prisons — others include Osama Suhaili, Sami Al-Thubaiti, Zuhair Kutbi, and Ali Mohsen Abu Lahoum, among many more. Their imprisonment reflects a systematic campaign by Saudi authorities to silence independent voices and suppress freedom of expression.

SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call on Saudi authorities to immediately disclose the fate of Zana Al-Shahri and release her unconditionally. The organization also urges the international community, human rights groups, and press freedom organizations to take urgent action and pressure Saudi authorities to free her and all journalists detained for their opinions.
