London — 21 June 2025
Sanad Human Rights Organization revealed that it had sent an official letter to the President of the Human Rights Commission of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, requesting a clear position from the Commission regarding the execution of Saudi journalist Turki Abdulaziz Al-Jasser. As of today, the organization has not received any official response or clarification from the Commission.

In its letter, Sanad stressed that the execution of Al-Jasser — after his arbitrary arrest in 2018, enforced disappearance, and subjection to physical and psychological torture — constitutes a flagrant violation of human rights and raises serious questions about the state of justice and judicial procedures in the Kingdom, particularly amid a lack of transparency and absence of official information regarding the case.

Sanad emphasized that freedom of expression, including on digital platforms, is a fundamental right that must not be restricted or criminalized. The organization pointed out that the charges brought against Al-Jasser and the circumstances of his trial lacked even the minimum standards of a fair trial.

The organization called on the Saudi Human Rights Commission to fulfill its national responsibility by investigating the circumstances of this case and disclosing any information it holds, in line with the Kingdom’s international human rights commitments.

Sanad further stated that Saudi Arabia’s pledge to improve its human rights environment and embrace the principles of justice requires the Human Rights Commission to fully assume its responsibilities in protecting basic rights and holding perpetrators of serious violations accountable, especially when it concerns the right to life.
