Release of Fahd Ramadan After a Year and a Half of Arbitrary Detention
The Saudi authorities have released Yemeni-Dutch citizen Fahd Ramadan after more than a year and a half of arbitrary detention, which began on November 20, 2023. He was arrested over alleged WhatsApp messages in which he was accused of criticizing the Saudi Crown Prince.
During his detention, Fahd Ramadan endured a series of grave human rights violations, including being arrested without a judicial warrant, held without trial or legal representation, and denied his family any official information about his legal status. His communication with his family was limited to restricted and infrequent phone calls—conditions that fall far below international human rights standards.
Sanad Human Rights Organization extends its heartfelt congratulations to Fahd Ramadan and his family, and expresses full solidarity with them. At the same time, the organization reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia, and for an end to the ongoing repression and persecution of individuals for peacefully expressing their views.
