On the Ninth Anniversary of His Arrest, Sanad Organization Demands the Immediate Release of Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Tarefe
Today marks the ninth anniversary of the arbitrary detention of Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Tarefe, who has been imprisoned since April 2016 due to tweets he posted on [X], calling for the restoration of rights and the defense of people’s legitimate claims.
Sanad Human Rights Organization affirms that Dr. Al-Tarefe’s arrest was solely because of his peaceful expression of opinion, constituting a clear violation of international human rights standards, particularly the right to freedom of expression.
Despite the passage of nine years, Dr. Al-Tarefe remains detained in Al-Ha’ir Prison in Riyadh without a fair trial, amid alarming reports of deliberate medical neglect and denial of family visits, which have severely worsened his health condition.
Sanad strongly condemns the ongoing unjust detention and calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Tarefe, ensure his right to proper medical care, and hold accountable those responsible for the violations he has suffered.
